L'Auberge ensorcelée
1897 · 2 min · FR
Directed by Georges Méliès
A traveller takes a room for the night and the room refuses to cooperate: the candle explodes, his boots walk off on their own, the bed leaves and comes back, and his trousers cross the ceiling while he watches. Méliès plays the guest himself, and the whole two minutes is a man trying to go to bed in a film that has other plans. The tricks are substitution splices in a set whose door exists to be slammed. Star Film, 1897.
