In New York, a vice syndicate run by the respectable philanthropist William Trubus lures immigrant girls and working women into forced prostitution. When Lorna Barton is kidnapped, her sister Mary and police officer Larry Burke race to find her, using a dictograph to expose the ring. Shot on location at Ellis Island and in Fort Lee, the six-reel thriller helped invent the American feature-length crime narrative.
