Directed by Lewis Milestone
A sergeant and a private who cannot stand each other are captured on the Western Front, escape a German camp in the white robes of Arab prisoners, and end up on a ship bound for Arabia with a woman and her unwelcome fiancé, so a war picture turns into a buddy comedy of insults and rescues. Louis Wolheim and William Boyd are the pair, Mary Astor the woman. Lewis Milestone won the only Academy Award ever given for directing a comedy. The film was thought lost until a print turned up in Howard Hughes's vaults, and the Academy Film Archive preserved it in 2016. Caddo Productions for United Artists, 1927.
