Humberto Cairo, Eduardo Martínez de la Pera and Ernesto Gunche, Buenos Aires, 1915. On the pampas, the gaucho Juan is hired to break horses for the landowner Don Genaro. After Juan rescues a country girl, Genaro's claim on her turns violent, and the story moves between the estancia and the city. The intertitles are drawn from Martín Fierro and Santos Vega. The film cost a few thousand pesos and earned it back several hundred times over, which made Argentine cinema a business. The surviving print is a shortened cut of a longer original.
