Directed by Cecil B. DeMille
Geraldine Farrar, the Metropolitan Opera's Carmen, plays the part without singing, and in the fight between women in the cigarette factory she bit. Mérimée and Bizet are compressed into a smugglers' plot and a knife, with Wallace Reid as Don José. Farrar had never made a film and worked as if it were a season. DeMille for Lasky, 1915, fifty-nine minutes.
