Carole Lombard, 1929, Pathé: a dapper gangster sponsors an alcoholic violinist to get near a divorced socialite. The Racketeer, early sound, Lombard not yet the screwball queen, already the profile. It is a crime picture about patronage as a pass, and a violin as the least convincing cover in the room.
