Millard Webb, First National, 1927, from Katherine Brush's novel Glitter. Richard Barthelmess is college footballer Jock Hamill. The AFI: the coach's wife, a former sweetheart, vamps him; the coach embezzles and kills himself; Jock is suspected of murder, shunned, then lands the drop kick while his mother clears him. Barbara Kent and Dorothy Revier. Released 25 September. Wikipedia lists sixty-two minutes; the Commons copy runs closer to sixty-nine. Webb shoots the scandal as if the game were a courtroom with a ball.
