Ollie falls in love in Paris with an innkeeper's daughter who is married, decides to drown himself, and Stan comes along to help; a Foreign Legion officer talks them into enlisting instead. Laundry, desertion, a firing squad, a stolen plane, and the soft-shoe to Shine On, Harvest Moon in the barracks yard, which is Laurel and Hardy at their most relaxed. The ending, with Ollie back as a horse with a moustache, is the kind of joke only they could land.
