Méliès takes off his head, sets it on a table, grows another, and does it again until three heads are singing and the fourth is conducting them. Then he loses patience and smashes two with a banjo. The trick is four passes through the camera with matte boxes on a black set, and every head hits its mark and keeps singing while the man swings. The 1898 catalogue called it black art. One minute.
