Two Tars

1928 · 21 min · US

Directed by James Parrott

Two sailors on leave rent a car, pick up two girls, and drive into a traffic jam. A bump. A bumper pulled off in reply. Then, motorist by motorist, a road full of strangers takes the cars apart, each act of damage answered, calmly, by one slightly larger, and the thing to watch is how long Hardy waits before he moves. The reciprocal-destruction gag the studio had been building since Battle of the Century, played at its purest. Edgar Kennedy leads the opposition. Hal Roach for MGM, 1928, two reels.
