Hordii Yaroshchuk drives a cab at night in Odesa under the Whites and wants no part of politics, and his daughter Katia is in the Bolshevik underground with a printing press. Through him, without his knowing it, the counter-intelligence finds her. She is shot. The last fare is the officer's. Amvrosii Buchma, the Ukrainian stage actor, plays Hordii with a heaviness that fills the frame, and Heorhiy Tasin keeps the film in the wet streets, the cab, the horse and the lamp, so the politics arrive as something that happens to a man on a box. One of the few VUFKU dramas that circulates outside Ukraine. Odesa, 1929.
