Dovzhenko, VUFKU, 1929. A Ukrainian soldier, Timosh, walks home from the German war into the 1918 fight for the Kyiv arsenal. Bodies stand up; a man cannot be shot; a mother mourns in a way the titles will not soften. Dovzhenko cuts poetry against newsreel syntax. Gosfilmofond and the Dovzhenko Centre both figure in the prints that circulate. The second panel of the silent Ukraine trilogy, after Zvenyhora and before Earth.
