Directed by D. W. Griffith
Two orphans locked in a room, a drunk housekeeper pushing a gun through a hole in the wall, and a brother racing home, with Griffith cutting the three against each other until the rescue arrives at the last minute. It is the Gish sisters' first film, and Lillian said Griffith fired a real pistol on the set to get the reaction. The gun barrel in the wall is the image. Biograph, 1912, sixteen minutes.
