The Avenging Conscience

Directed by D. W. Griffith

A nephew kept from love by a tyrant uncle murders him and walls him up, and then a detective, a ticking clock, a tapping foot and the heart under the floor take him apart. Griffith cuts Henry B. Walthall's face against an insect eating another insect to say what conscience is, which is sound done with pictures a year before Birth of a Nation. Then a dream ending. Mutual, 1914, from Poe, with Blanche Sweet.
