A banker throws his wife's sable coat off the roof and it lands on Mary Smith, on a bus, and the town decides she is his mistress, a hotel gives her a suite, and the stock market moves on the rumour. The Automat riot, every little door opening at once, is the sequence. Preston Sturges wrote it and was not yet allowed to direct his own scripts, and this one shows how much of what he would do was already written; Mitchell Leisen directed.
