Krishna as a boy steals butter, ties a merchant's beard to his wife's hair, and subdues the serpent Kaliya in a real river, standing on its head. Phalke's daughter Mandakini, seven years old, plays him. Trick work, a river, a crowd, and the most complete Phalke film that survives. Hindustan Film Company, 1919, forty-eight minutes.
