Directed by Maurice Tourneur
Maurice Tourneur, Artcraft, 1917, from Eleanor Gates's play. Pickford is Gwendolyn, a rich child kept indoors until a sleeping draught sends her into a dream city built from the servants' talk. Frances Marion adapted it. Tourneur and John van den Broek give the fantasy a real architecture: garden of forgetful flowers, staircase, two-faced people. She was twenty-four. The dream is the part that is directed.
