Notre-Dame de Paris
1911 · 38 min · FR
Directed by Albert Capellani
Hugo cut to the kidnap, the pillory, the false accusation and sanctuary, with Henry Krauss as Quasimodo and Stacia Napierkowska as Esmeralda. The pillory scene, with the cup of water, is already the one the story turns on, twelve years before Chaney. Albert Capellani stages the crowd in depth in front of a painted cathedral, in stencil colour. Pathé, 1911, thirty-eight minutes.
