Wait a minute, wait a minute, you ain't heard nothin' yet, Jolson says, to the audience in the film and the one outside it. A cantor's son becomes a jazz singer, and the film is silent with a Vitaphone score until he sings, and then talks. The Kol Nidre scene is the one to watch, and the blackface finale is the fact you do not get to skip. The talkies start with this picture whether or not they should have.
