Gunnar Hedes saga
1923 · 70 min · SE
Directed by Mauritz Stiller
Stiller, Svensk Filmindustri, 1923, from Lagerlöf. Gunnar Hede (Einar Hanson) would rather play the violin than run the family reindeer business; after his father's death he is pushed north, is hurt in a stampede, and comes home with his mind gone. A neighbor's daughter tries to call him back through music. Only an incomplete print survives, which SFI and Silent Era both note. What is left is Hanson in the snow and a herd that will not take direction. Stiller was a year from Gösta Berling.
