Juno and the Paycock

Hitchcock, BIP, 1930, from Sean O'Casey's Abbey play. The Boyle family in a Dublin tenement during the Civil War: a false inheritance, a daughter's trouble, the IRA at the door. Sara Allgood is Juno, a role she had played on stage. Hitchcock later said the reverence for the text boxed him in. He shoots it mostly as rooms and faces. The camera comments when it can. The play does the rest.
