Workers Leaving the Lumière Factory

La Sortie de l'usine Lumière à Lyon

1895 · 1 min · FR

Directed by Louis Lumière

Louis Lumière, Lyon, 1895: employees pour out of the photographic-plate factory at Monplaisir, 21 rue Saint-Victor, now rue du Premier-Film. Forty-five seconds, one locked shot, women first, then men, then the gates. The Catalogue Lumière lists it as no. 91; Aubert and Seguin later numbered four versions (91.1 to 91.4). The March take shown privately on 22 March is lost. The print we know is likely a May remake, and it opened the paid programme at the Salon indien du Grand Café on 28 December.
