A Visit to the Seaside

George Albert Smith, Brighton, 1908, for Charles Urban's Natural Colour Kinematograph Company. Eight minutes of promenade, pier, and bathing machines, shot through alternating red and green filters at about 32 frames a second. Kinemacolor, Smith's patented two-color process. Shown to the trade in 1908 and to a paying house at the Palace Theatre, Shaftesbury Avenue, on 26 February 1909. The first natural-color film to earn a commercial run. Earlier additive tests (Turner, Smith's own tartans) had not held a public run.
