Directed by Allan Dwan
Allan Dwan, Fairbanks, United Artists, 1922. Fairbanks is the Earl of Huntingdon, who follows Richard to the Crusades, comes home to Prince John’s England, and takes the greenwood name. Enid Bennett is Marian; Wallace Beery is John. The Nottingham castle set on Santa Monica Boulevard was advertised as the largest yet built in Hollywood; it stood for years after. Fairbanks again wrote as Elton Thomas. The first half is pageant; the second is the vaults and the drawbridge chain. Photoplay and the trades sold the square footage as hard as the plot.
