Directed by Cecil B. DeMille
Cecil B. DeMille, Famous Players-Lasky, 1923. First the Exodus: Moses, Pharaoh, a Red Sea parted with a U-shaped trough of gelatin and a camera run backward, then a modern San Francisco story in which two brothers treat the Commandments as a business plan and a conscience. Theodore Roberts is Moses; Richard Dix and Rod La Rocque are the brothers. The dunes at Guadalupe buried sphinxes the company left behind; archaeologists later dug them up. DeMille remade the biblical half in 1956. This version still has the contemporary sermon attached.
