Augusto Genina, Sofar, 1930, from a story Pabst and René Clair had a hand in. Louise Brooks is Lucienne, a Paris typist who enters a contest, becomes Miss Europe, and finds that the prize is a contract and a jealous man. Shot silent, then post-synchronized in several languages. Rudolf Maté photographed it. The last scene is her watching her own image in a projection room. The sound version keeps that ending. Cineteca di Bologna later put the silent cut back together.
