Murnau's last German film, Ufa, 1926, before he left for Fox and Sunrise. An archangel and Mephisto wager on Faust. Emil Jannings plays Mephisto, first as a winged plague over a town, then as a traveling companion. Gösta Ekman is Faust old and young. The flight over the model landscape is the famous trick. Gretchen is the part of the story that costs something.
