I Was Born, But...

Yasujirō Ozu, Shochiku Kamata, 1932. Two brothers move to a Tokyo suburb, beat the local bullies, then see their father clowning for his boss in a home movie and refuse to eat. Tatsuo Saitō is the father; Tomio Aoki and Hideo Sugawara are the boys. It was the first of six Ozu films to top Kinema Junpo's annual poll. Shiro Kido delayed the release two months, unsure about the turn from gags to the office. Ozu later remade the premise as Good Morning.
